STAR OF THE SEA - Purifying Mineral Bath

Sale price$8.00

Star of the Sea Purifying Mineral Bath

A mineral-rich bathing blend for cleansing, renewal, and deep sea repose.

Inspired by Stella Maris, the Star of the Sea, this purifying mineral bath brings together the elemental simplicity of sea salt and naturally sourced magnesium chloride, with gentle kaolin clay, and the deep blue of spirulina.

Created as a purifying and restorative bathing formulation, it invites the body to slow down and absorb the revitalizing power of the sea.

Here's a quick, shallow dive at the ingredients and how they work together:

  • Sea Salt: Mineral-rich sea salt gently cleanses and refreshes the skin while bringing the ancient purifying essence of the ocean to the bath.
  • Magnesium Chloride: A highly soluble mineral salt that enriches the bath with magnesium and creates a deeply restorative mineral bathing experience.
  • Kaolin Clay: A naturally fine, gentle clay that absorbs excess oils and surface impurities while leaving the skin feeling smooth, clean, and refreshed.
  • Blue Spirulina: Naturally rich in brilliant blue phycocyanin, blue spirulina brings antioxidant-associated botanical properties and the luminous living colour of the sea to the bath.
  • Sodium Bicarbonate: Its mildly alkaline character makes it a natural complement to mineral salts and clay, while its gentle cleansing properties help remove surface oils and impurities

And here's a deep dive into each element of this formulation and the synergies they form.

Magnesium Chloride

At the heart of Star of the Sea is magnesium chloride, a naturally occurring mineral salt found within the concentrated brines of the sea.

Magnesium is one of the great mineral treasures of seawater. In places where ancient waters have become exceptionally concentrated, such as the Dead Sea, magnesium exists in remarkable abundance alongside sodium, potassium, calcium, and other naturally occurring minerals. Our magnesium chloride is produced by concentrating mineral-rich brines through evaporation, allowing water to return to the atmosphere while the dissolved minerals gradually crystallize and are harvested.

Magnesium chloride is highly soluble in water, making it particularly beautiful in the bath. As the crystals dissolve into warm water, they create a mineral-rich environment reminiscent of the great salt waters from which these minerals originate.

Magnesium itself is an essential mineral involved throughout the human body, including normal muscle and nerve function and energy metabolism. Magnesium chloride offers a silky, concentrated mineral presence and an opportunity of deep restoration.

Sea Salt

Born from the meeting of sun, water, and earth, sea salt is among the most ancient minerals used by humanity.

Harvested through the evaporation of seawater, sea salt is composed primarily of sodium chloride, together with naturally occurring traces of other marine minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium.

For generations, salt has been treasured for its purifying and preserving qualities. In the bath, it creates a naturally mineral-rich immersion that leaves the skin feeling clean, refreshed, and renewed.

Salt water can help cleanse the surface of the skin and loosen excess oils and impurities, while its mineral character makes it a beautiful foundation for a restorative bathing experience.

But sea salt offers something beyond its physical qualities.

Salt has long been a symbol of purity, preservation, wisdom, and incorruptibility

Kaolin Clay

From the ancient earth comes kaolin, a remarkably fine mineral clay prized for generations for its gentle cleansing and absorbent qualities.

Kaolin is comprised mainly of kaolinite, a naturally occurring clay mineral formed over vast periods of geological time through the weathering of rocks. Its exceptionally fine particles give it a soft, silky character that makes it one of the gentlest clays used in natural skin care.

In the bath, kaolin acts as a gentle mineral cleanser. Its naturally absorbent structure helps draw away excess oils and surface impurities, leaving the skin feeling clean, smooth, and refreshed.

Unlike coarse exfoliants, kaolin does not rely upon harsh scrubbing. Its beauty lies in its simplicity: a fine mineral powder meeting warm water and the skin, creating a soft and grounding bathing experience.

A gentle mineral clay for a bath that leaves the skin feeling purified, softened, and renewed.

Blue Spirulina

This naturally blue-green microalga contains C-phycocyanin, a brilliant blue pigment-protein responsible for its distinctive colour. Far more than a simple colourant, phycocyanin has been studied for its antioxidant and soothing properties and its potential applications in natural skin care.

In the bath, blue spirulina creates a beautiful mineral-blue immersion while bringing a botanical richness to the bath. Its naturally occurring pigments and bioactive compounds make it a beautiful complement to sea salt, magnesium chloride, and kaolin clay.

Phycocyanin's antioxidant properties are well known and its constituents have also been investigated for their potential to support a healthy, balanced skin environment.

A luminous cerulean blue, reminiscent of a hidden lagoon beneath an open sky, transforms the bath into a moment of contemplation. It is the colour of the sea and also of Mary's mantle.

Sodium Bicarbonate

Simple, elemental, and remarkably versatile, sodium bicarbonate has been treasured for generations as a gentle cleansing and bathing mineral.

Sodium bicarbonate dissolves readily in warm water, helping to create a soft, silky bathing environment. Its mildly alkaline character makes it a natural complement to mineral salts and clay, while its gentle cleansing properties help remove surface oils and impurities without the need for harsh detergents.

It can also help soften the feel of bathwater and leave the skin feeling smooth, refreshed, and renewed. Its natural odour-neutralizing properties add another dimension to the purifying character of the bath.

In Star of the Sea, sodium bicarbonate brings an element of balance to the formulation, complementing the mineral richness of sea salt and magnesium chloride while harmonizing beautifully with kaolin clay and blue spirulina.

Directions

Pour into warm running bathwater and allow the minerals and clay to disperse. Step in, breathe deeply, and let the day's burdens settle beneath the water.

Stella Maris, ora pro nobis.
