BIG RED ROBE OOLONG - SCARLET THREAD
A full-bodied roasted oolong (Big Red Robe/ Da Hong Pao) with a velvety, crimson liquor with warm notes of molasses and spice.
Big Red Robe (Da Hong Pao) is one of the most celebrated oolong teas of the Wuyi Mountains—deeply roasted, complex, and enduring. “Scarlet Thread” draws its inspiration from both the tea’s name and a beautiful tradition associated with Saint Mary Magdalene.
Da Hong Pao brews a rich amber cup layered with notes of roasted stone fruit, warm mineral, cacao, and subtle orchid. Its aroma is full and contemplative, while the finish lingers long after the final sip—like a story that continues to unfold.
The name “Scarlet Thread” reflects an ancient Christian tradition in which Mary Magdalene, after proclaiming the Resurrection, used a red thread as a symbol of the mystery she preached: the thread of redemption that runs through all of salvation history from sacrifice to resurrection, from suffering to new life. In this sense, the scarlet thread becomes a sign of continuity, witness, and the spreading of the Gospel.
The tea’s own story mirrors this symbolism. The legendary Da Hong Pao—literally “Big Red Robe”—is tied to tales of healing, honor, and reverence. Just as the robe signified gratitude and protection in the tea’s folklore, the scarlet thread represents the living witness that carries truth forward.
“Scarlet Thread” invites you to slow down and contemplate. Each infusion reveals deeper layers of flavor, much like the unfolding of a story passed from one witness to another.
Consume it thoughtfully and follow the thread.
